Dear Lord, thank you for James’ explanation of why I am to confess my sins—so I can be in helpful and healing relationships with you and with others in my life. Help me to be more loving and sensitive to the feelings of other people with regard to my confessions, so as not to needlessly hurt them just so that I can feel better or “keep the rules.” In Jesus’ name, Amen.

****

Yes. Amen.

Keith, thank you for this note of explanation and this prayer that I can join you in praying.

Your post offers ways to help us determine whether or not something needs to be brought up

A.J. Jacobs was interviewed about his book, The Guinea Pig Diaries, and said his one month experiment of complete honesty was the hardest of all his experiments. He then said that lying has a place in our society.

I don't view calculated confessions as lying, but I got his point.
