Jessica Lyon

Welcome to  My name is Jessica Lyon and among my many titles (daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend) I am honored to be Keith Miller’s assistant.

Here I am with my husband David and the other handsome guy is our son, Blaine.  He was born on 2/22 at 2:22 (!) and he’s been a glorious handful ever since.  We were recently blessed with another child – Hannah Grace – born on 6/7/10.  I attempt (between all my responsibilities) to document our lives through my personal blog at A Pride of Lyons.

Though I claim to be a Texan, I am a Michigander at heart.  I was born and raised in Sanford, Michigan by two dedicated and loving parents and had the pleasure of growing up with one ‘little’ brother (who now towers over me and has taught me so much about life and love and acceptance through the years).

I am a proud alumnus of  the University of Michigan where I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Architecture in 2002.  Upon graduating I decided I should to try my hand at something new and challenging and was recruited by and joined the ranks of Teach for America.  (Teach for America recruits outstanding recent college graduates from all backgrounds and career interests to commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools.)  I was placed in Houston, Texas where I would spend the next two years teaching students with learning disabilities at Jefferson Davis High School.  I know that God used me to change a few lives, but more importantly He used that experience and those students to change my life forever.

I decided not to pursue a career in law (a so-I-thought lifelong dream) and instead continued to work in education, in under-resourced and low-income communities for the next four and a half years until God opened the door for me to work for two amazing writers who have become more than employers.   While my calling to teach was an important one, my work for Keith and Andrea has been wonderful and soul-changing.

The chapter (in The Edge of Adventure) on prayer gave me several new insights into better ways to communicate with God rather than pray to God. My all day long praying became more responsive. I try to listen more.
